Each year Roots to Harvest has 5-8 positions, available to the participants from the Urban Youth Garden, for part time weekend work in our Academic Year Program (AYP).
The AYP is a continuation of the good work that happens each summer season. Participants finish up the harvests and chores from our urban sites, process the harvest, work on farms, help out in soup kitchens and do all of the start up (seed ordering, crop planning) for the farming season to come. The program participants help keep our seeds packaged through Superior Seeds and generally ensure all of our fundraising efforts and social enterprise work continues, in addition to the good work they do in the community and with farm partners.
Participants gain perspective regarding what a full year of food work looks like. The transition from a full-on, intense summer of work, growth and play back to the norms of school and friends goes a little smoother when there is a chance to reconnect and stay involved with Roots to Harvest throughout the school year.
