Emergency Donations
There are 3 areas that Roots to Harvest is focusing on Food Access during Covid-19.
1. With the closure of schools, families who relied on student nutrition programs (those daily breakfast, lunch and snack programs) are left without. We've mobilized partners to work together to supplement breakfast and lunch foods into packages that can hopefully be stretched for a few days for each family.
One week of food orders for 400 families is currently around $9000. This includes a box of cereal, 3lbs of fruit, granola bars, apple sauce, a block of cheese or container of peanut butter and a loaf of bread. With more funds we can put more in these packages - milk, tuna, crackers. Thank you for helping us to relieve food insecurity stress for families!
2. Emergency food for seniors living in subsidized housing: Working in partnership with the Good Food Box and Thunder Bay District Social Services Administration Board, We are delivering 100 packages of food valued at $40 (a combination of fresh and non- perishable) that get delivered right to subsidized house units throughout the city.
3. Prepping food in our kitchen for both Dew Drop Inn and Shelter House. With a shortage of volunteers and the need to keep spaces less crowded, we prep sandwiches for both these places multiple times a week and deliver them back to be handed out each day.

$20: Lend a hand
$20 is great! It lets us buy some much needed supplies to put towards packages, and keeps food in bellies. Nuff said. |
$50: Package Provider
With necessities and niceties paid for (did we tell you we made more than 3000 muffins week one), it lets us sweat out the details in other places. Basically, you pay for it, we'll pack and get it where it needs to go. |
$75: Better and More
You know what's better than getting biscuits in your school food package? ham and cheese biscuits... This donation does just that, lets us make more packages, and maybe upgrade a few things. Not get carried away, but come on... cheese. |
$100: Heart on your sleeve
All of the above! We'll make sure your money goes a long, long way. |
These funds have a real time impact in our community - and we can't do it without you! ❤️ Here are just a few examples:
