S.H.O.WThe S.H.O.W program debuted as an employment program in the spring of 2016. The program hires youth aged 18-30 years in a 5-month long contract for Seasonal Horticultural Outdoor Worker (S.H.O.W) positions, aimed at breaking down barriers to employment and instilling broader based employment skills and agricultural training.

Youth Garden ProgramThe Youth Garden Program has been at the core of the Roots to Harvest employment strategy from the very beginning. In partnership with the Lakehead District School Board, ten high school students aged 15-18 are hired for 6 weeks in July and August to build employment skills and get co-op credits for running one of our urban garden sites and working with local farmers.

Academic Year ProgramThe Academic Year Program (A.Y.P) began as an initiative to provide year round engagement and work for interns in the Youth Garden Program. Selected interns carry over the skills learned through their summer internship and continue on with Roots to Harvest, working part-time while still attending school, engaging in food related jobs through placements, on farm work, seed saving and other relevant winter-time tasks.
