Tips for Applicants

Applying for a job with Roots to Harvest (or any job really?) Here are some things to consider as you prepare your resume and cover letter!
  • SURF our website and READ the job description closely.
  • BE selective about the jobs that you put on your resume! We want to know about your volunteer and work experience that is relevant to the job you’re applying for. Tell us about your experience working with youth  & building community. Also, show us you are interested in working with people primarily, then you can touch on any relevant food experience.
  • DO NOT send us the same cover letter that you send to every other job you are applying for. Sending a generic application tells us that you are just looking for a job.We want to hire people who are excited about what we do! Your cover letter should tell us that you know what we do, and that you’re enthusiastic about working with us!
A strong application (resume + cover letter) = you get invited to an interview!

SHOW US that you have what we’re looking for (qualifications) and the ability to do a great job (skills). Make sure you tell us about your experience
  • Working with young people through schools and other programs
  • Building community and working with people
  • Any projects and programs you have been involved with
  • With food, gardening, farming or outdoor work in general
  • Hobbies, skills, and interests related to the job and life in general
With each experience listed, tell us about your role, responsibilities and accomplishments! Dates and places help too!

Help us be organized.
PLEASE:
  • Send us your application (resume + cover letter) in a single PDF.
  • The title of the file should include your name and some indication of the position.
  • Include your references (if you get an interview we're going to ask you for them anyway, and we'd prefer having them all in one place with your application.)
