Urban BeekeepingThis 2-day, 9-hour course is targeted at beginner and intermediate beekeepers. Participants will learn about proper hive management, pest management, honey production, hive health, handling techniques, seasonal care and more from Barry Tabor. Barry has been keeping bees locally for over 20 years, and is one of our region's largest honey producers. He's also incredibly passionate about bees and wants anyone new to, or just thinking about keeping bees, to experience success and enjoyment at every level.
Day One of the course will start at the Roots to Harvest office to go through some bee keeping theory, then participants will head to the bee yard at the Roots to Harvest Urban Farm to work with the bees there. On Day Two, the group will head out to Lakeshore Drive, to extend the beekeeping experience and knowledge in Barry's own bee yard there. Our ability to get outside and work with the bees depends on the weather - but the course will run both days no matter what. All bee keeping equipment will be provided. Participants will be responsible for their own transportation to the bee yard on Lakeshore Drive. Cost: $150 plus tax Extras: $30 for Ontario Bee Association Bee Manual Date: May 30 (11-4) & 31 (12-4) email info@rootstoharvest.org to register and for more information. |
